Thanks For A Great Year!

May 2015

We’ve had a great year here at BPE!  As a PTA Board, we began the year with a brand new group

people ready to serve our school.  We had lots of ideas and big goals.  With the help of dedicated board

members, committee chairs and countless volunteers just look at some of the things the BPE PTA

accomplished over the past 9 months!  Membership rose this year as we “made PTA POP!” with our Fall

Membership Drive.  PTA successfully funded many projects, provided extra field trips and supplies for our

kids through the Big Kahuna Fall Fundraiser, Box Tops for Education and monthly Dining Out Nights.  We established a cool new way to recycle with the World Wear donation bin.  We showed our school pride with new spirit wear designs and collected fun spirit sticks on Fridays!  We hosted an awesome Back to School BASH and Fall Tailgate party.  We roller skated with Santa!  We partnered with the local medical and business community to host the 2015 Health and Wellness Expo.  We found out that many Bette Perot families are really good cooks as we tasted chili at the first annual Chili Bowl Chili Cook Off!  We preserved memories made at BPES through the annual yearbook and the Personalized Brick project.

Thank you for joining PTA, volunteering your time and talents to PTA projects and supporting activities at Bette Perot.

Before we break for summer our volunteers are busy working on just a few more fun events for our students and their families.  Please join us Friday, May 15, for the Spring Sock Hop!  Dust off your poodle skirts or leather jackets and get ready to step back in time for a fun night of music, soda floats, popcorn, raffle prizes and an old fashioned cake walk!  Admission is free.  Concession items will be on sale, as well as, raffle tickets and cake walk tickets. The fun starts at 6:30pm in the BPE gym.  This event is open to all BPE students and their families.

We will celebrate the end of another school year with our annual End of the Year Parties on Thursday, June 4th.  Look for more information coming home from your classroom teachers regarding party times and volunteer opportunities.

Again, thank you for making this a great year!  Enjoy a fun and safe summer break.

Making Memories Is What It's All About!

April 2015

Elementary school is a magical time in a child’s life.  It is a time to learn, build friendships and make memories. I loved elementary school, as I am sure many of you did.  When I get the chance to go home, I love to walk back to campus and visit the place where I first attended school.  This month the PTA will be sponsoring a very special fundraiser that I hope you and your family will want to support.  We are selling personalized brick paver stones engraved with your child’s name, family name or special message.  Most of you have seen the personalized bricks around the flag pole as you walk on campus.  Through this fundraiser, we are excited to offer another opportunity for families who have not purchased a “piece of history” to do so.  The new stones will be placed around the playground area for you and others to enjoy for many years to come.  The money raised support our continued effort of improving our playground areas.

Students will bring home an order form the week of April 6th.  Extra copies will be available in the foyer of the school.  The deadline to order will be April 17th.  To ensure prompt manufacturing and delivery service, we must stick to the deadline provided by our chairperson.  Please don’t delay if you wish to order.  The selling dates will be April 6-17th.  Contact Dee Dee Mackey with questions.

Through this fundraising opportunity we can provide a beautiful, lasting keepsake for our children to remember time spent at this very special school.

Have a great month making memories with your kids!

Is That Spring I See On The Horizon?

March 2015

March is shaping up to be another busy month around campus.  We are looking forward to celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday, spending some time exploring the wonders of science after our General Assembly meeting, dining out at Chick fil A, and gathering new volunteers to join our Executive Board and Committees for next year.

Speaking of gathering new volunteers . . . the PTA is looking for new faces and fresh ideas!  If you would like to be involved, make new friends and help make a difference in your school then we have a job for YOU!

Check out the “We Need YOU In The PTA” flyer being sent home through teachers’ newsletters and front office communications this month. Please consider running for an elected office or chairing a committee next year. A PTA is only as strong as its members and volunteers.  We need Y-O-U!

Finally, I would like to say how lucky I feel to work with such a dedicated group of volunteers.  Our executive board members, committee chairs, volunteers, teachers and administration never cease to amaze me!  Programs and projects are successful because people care enough to get involved and lend a hand.

Our school benefits from the generosity of volunteers every day.  Thank you to those who work tirelessly simply because our kids matter.  It is an honor and a pleasure to serve with each of you!

Have a great month!

"F" Is For Fun At BPES!

February 2015

February is shaping up to be another fun-filled month at Bette Perot Elementary.  We are looking forward to dining out at Pluckers, tasting some amazing chili recipes at the Chili Cook Off, celebrating Valentine’s Day and shopping at the Book Fair this month.

Your Fundraising Dollars Are Hard At Work For BPES!

The support you give through your volunteer time and donations is immeasurable.  None of what we are able to do through PTA would be possible without your support.  So far this year PTA has been able to support our school, its students, faculty and the community in the following ways:

  • Extra field trip experiences for all grade levels

  • Family events such as Fall Tailgate and Health & Wellness Expo

  • Classroom Winter party snacks, crafts and games

  • Staff Appreciation luncheons

  • Running Club (resuming this Spring)

  • Awards for PTA Reflections recipients

  • Scholarship donation to our feeder pattern High School, TCHS

  • Donation to Casey’s Kids – a program supporting disadvantaged youth in Keller ISD

  • Book Fair support for the BPES library

  • Money for new recess equipment for all grade levels (arriving this Spring)

  • Money for teachers to purchase Spirit Sticks for student awards and incentives

  • Sound board equipment for Drama/Music productions

  • Student club support such as Student In Action

We are thrilled with the many ways PTA has been able to help our school and look forward to giving back in more ways in the coming months.

Happy New Year!

January 2015

Welcome back!

What’s your New Year’s Resolution?  You might consider resolving to become more involved at Bette Perot.  Volunteering even a little bit of your time is not only helpful to our school but rewarding, too!  The staff and students love to see parents (AND grandparents!) helping around the campus.

Here are just a few ways you might consider volunteering.

  • Watch D.O.G.S.: Dads, if you are looking for a way to get involved and see what your child does all day, consider becoming one of our Watch D.O.G.S.!  Contact Mrs. Cox, our school counselor, or Caroline Vorwerk to be added to the Watch D.O.G.S. calendar.  There are still many dates available!

  • Be a school volunteer:  Our teachers, office staff and Co-Curr teachers oftentimes need a little extra help.  Please contact Julie Onkels to be added to our PTA Volunteer Contact List.  Julie emails “Sign Up Geniuses” with volunteer opportunities, don’t be left out!

  • Volunteer in the Library:  If you have ever stopped by the library you might have noticed the piles of books needing to be re-shelved. Ask Mrs. Pratt, our fabulous Librarian, how you might be able to help.  She is always in need of some friendly faces looking to brush up on the “Dewey Decimal System!”

  • Volunteer from home:  Ask your classroom teacher or the front office if there are projects needing to be completed from home.  This is a great way for our working families or parents with small children to still lend a hand.

  • Consider becoming a PTA Board Member in 2015!  I know it’s only January, and you might be thinking, “Next year’s PTA?” . . . but it’s never too early to consider running for next year’s Board.

The PTA nominating committee will be forming the 2015-2016 PTA ballot in early Spring.  Consider attending our General Assembly meetings over the next few months to become familiar with the BPES PTA.  You might decide you would be a great fit next year’s Board!

September is PTA Membership Drive Month!

September 2014

Joining PTA benefits both your school AND your family!

When we, as parents and community leaders, become involved in our schools, we send a message that our kids are the future and they are worth supporting.  A strong membership creates a successful PTA.  We need YOU to help make that happen.  Your membership dues of $8.50 go to support fun and important programs that directly impact each child at Bette Perot. Please consider joining the BPES PTA this school year and become involved.

6 Reasons to Become involved in your child’s school. . .*

  • Volunteering at school makes a big difference! Research shows that kids whose parents are involved in their schools get better grades, do better on tests and have fewer discipline problems at school.

  • It feels great to participate! Your child spends a lot of time at school and it’s great to share in some of his/her school-related experiences.

  • It’s a manageable commitment.  Volunteering can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be.  Spend as much or as little time as you have to give, and your efforts will be appreciated.

  • You can tailor volunteering to play to your strengths. Many volunteer opportunities are sure to compliment your strengths, interests or professional skills.

  • You’ll get to know other parents. Volunteering can create a circle of adult friends around a school and help foster connections between families in your neighborhood community.

  • It’s FUN! Get involved today and see why the volunteers around our school are having so much fun!
